Blank Maps - Between You & Me

It has been a fairly hectic couple of weeks, hence the lack of updates. I am going to be travelling, first to join Labirinto on tour for a week then to Europe for two months. And then I move to NYC right when I get back. The trip starts next week and there is still preparation to be done. This song has been great for calming a good deal of that stress.

These past couple weeks have had some great music discoveries as well as new releases. However, there is one album (or... well, "single" I guess) that I just cannot get enough of. Blank Maps - Single 2. Granted, there are only two songs but my god... I can't stop listening to them! Blank Maps had instantly reached the top of my list of favourite indie artists since I had discovered their song, Double Rainbow from their EP, wasn't related to the humourous youtube video. Since then they've come out with four songs on two singles. Their music has matured quite a bit since the EP, which was already great.

I often get excited when I find a band that I like and I often say, "I'm looking forward to these guys' new releases." So, it might not be a surprise to hear me say that for these guys, but I'm going to say it anyway. Seeing their progression since their EP, I'm REALLY looking forward to their next releases.

The Soil & The Sun - Raised In Glory

Lately one of my good friends has been hooked on an artist I introduced to him, Time Columns. So, in return he tossed me an artist that was love-at-first-listen. Apparently O'Brother has been recommending these guys on their page. As I had described to him, it's very... dream-like. As usual, when I find artists like this I go on a frenzy trying to search for more musicians like it. This is not an easy search.

time&time - Darkness

My good friend, and time&time's label head, introduced me to this band. His pitch to me was, "instrumental jams with harmonica and shit." I was sold. I'm always open to music that incorporates instruments outside of their genre. I've heard a lot of post and progressive instrumental rock and I don't think I'll ever completely tire of the style. However, it is always refreshing hearing something different. And it isn't just the usage of harmonica (which is just featured in this song and Robot Reprise) that is different. They have a play style that is familiar for those that listen to post-rock but with influences that aren't commonly heard in the genre.

Now, I know the song abruptly ends (it leads into the next song), and normally I like to feature songs that don't do that just in regards to the artist. But this song has the harmonica and was what initially piqued my interest.

Also, for those viewers that live in or around St. Louis, time&time will be opening for two other phenomenal bands, O'Brother and Junius.

This should be a really good show.
