Resuming Monday

For those that follow my blog, I am currently on a small road trip with a friend from Atlanta and will be resuming my usual Soundtrack Of The Day on Monday.

Some great post-rock from Mexico!

Gypsy & The Cat - Human Desire

I'm starting to become a LITTLE obsessed with the Australian indie/folk/pop music scene. However, it seems like the big recording labels (RCA UK/Sony) have consumed their distribution and are making it very selective on where they distribute to, even digitally. Currently I can only find one song available for those living in the US to purchase (on iTunes). JBHI does ship hard copies, but 22 dollars for a CD is pretty steep even to me...

New Album Release: marionette ID - Transpire

Marionette ID has JUST released their new EP and some new concert dates. Some previous Hungarian reviews of this album expresses that this is a little darker and heavier than their previous album. I can say that is pretty accurate.

If you're in Budapest, go see them on the 10s!
March 10th with Képzelt Város at (Új) Szabad az Á
April 10th with God Is An Astronaut at Dürer-kert
May 10th with The Samuel Jackson Five at (Új) Szabad az Á

I will most likely be at the May 10th show.

Download Transpire here.

The Jezabels - A Little Piece

I've been getting a serious indie and pop kick lately... so, my next submissions will probably lean more toward those genres.

Painted In Exile - Skylines

I'm really excited about this post. I received a notification email from YouTube on a reply from a post I made to this song. I read my message and thought, "Wow, I don't remember writing that eloquent. I sound very music-snobby." I then listened to the song and remembered why I wrote that. I tend to write like that when I get excited.

Anyway, if Progressive Rap-Nu-Metal-Jazzcore was a genre, this would be its sole artist.

I really wish they had a Bandcamp page...

Skizotype - Visual Heat (Part II.)

Fairly new band from Hungary. I stumbled upon them through Képzelt Város' Facebook page. I think I saw someone mention them once or twice but it wasn't until Máté "liked" them I became a little more interested. There isn't much more info on them. They don't even have a last.fm page as of yet. I'm looking forward to more stuff from them, though. And I'll most likely be making another Soundtrack To The Day posting when they come out with more stuff.

(I'm not quite sure what genre to toss them into. "Experimental" is a bit too broad. Shoegaze just seemed to fit a little more than the rest.)

Anahata - Moments

This was introduced to me by a workmate, my team leader to be exact. I had absolutely no idea that his taste in music was so eclectic. He seemed like the type of man, especially of his age, that just listened to classic rock. This excites me. I will have to delve into more of his musical library and will have to share some of mine.

Actual Music Quartet RSM - Face, Two Face...

AMQRSM was introduced to me mere hours ago by a girl on last.fm as a reply suggestion after I recommended Years Of Rice And Salt. There are very few bands nowadays that are "love at first listen."

AMQRSM seems to have a very, very small presence on the internet. I actually had to upload this song to YouTube just so I can feature it right now. And noticing their last login on Myspace was April of 2010, I'm afraid they may not be making any more music. I do hope I am wrong because I'd love to hear more from them.

Alex Kozobolis - Theme For An Empty Playground

I used to play piano. My father used to say, "you're going to regret quitting when you get older." Of course, as a child I disregarded the forethought he'd try to instill upon me. He was right. I played piano from age eight to when I was around 14. My brother plays every now and then, even got a weighted keyboard for Christmas. I want to start up again... I should. Listening to Kozobolis makes me really, really want to. I don't have the mind to compose, but I'd love to at least play again.

Irepress - Diaspora

This band embodies "experimental," and this song is their best example. Those 30 second teasers that iTunes has is completely useless on Irepress. If you listened to the first 30 seconds, then 2:17 to 2:47 you would have absolutely no idea it's the same song... or even the same band. But don't you DARE lump them into a genre! (But I had to lump them into a genre for labeling...)

Sculptured - The Shape Of Rage

Sorry about the late post. The internet at this hotel is completely unreliable and didn't allow me to connect last night.

Anyway, the best way to describe Sculptured is if Irepress leaned more toward death metal they'd probably be Sculptured. And if you don't know Irepress then... well... check back in about six hours.

félperc - They should probably be dead by now (w/Bakos Attila)

I started this blog off with félperc, and I think I'll start 2011 with him as well. The instrumental version of this song was what got me hooked onto him. However, I really enjoy this vocal version. Bakos Attila's voice really adds to the intensity.
